WHAT IS AN ENCODER MODULATOR? |
|
Before we get to know what the encoder modulator is, we need to know the modulator and the encoder.
What is a modulator?
When video or audio travel over a wire, they take up all the space on that wire. And a modulator forces that signal to take up only a very narrowly defined range of frequencies. This is done so you can have multiple signals on a wire and they don't interfere with each other.
What is an encoder?
At its simplest, encoding is simply the set of rules that determine how digital data is stored. As in, there are a set of eight numbers that determine the red, eight that determine the green, and eight that determine the blue. Then, there are eight that determine each audio source. If you are looking to read a digital file, you need to know the rules. If you know the rules, you can display video and play sound.
Encoders need to do more than that, however. A typical HD video signal in digital form is about 30 gigabytes per minute. That's way too big to send to your cell phone and it's way too big to be able to fit several hundred channels over one wire.
Encoder Modulator
As technology grows, the encoder chipset can manage more things than before. That is giving us a chance to integrate them into one unit. All the video and sound signals will be compressed into data form and go through the modulator chipset to desired output standard.
What an encoder modulator brings to us are less cabling, less setting and less power consumption. But for me, the easy setting matters a lot.
Speak of set up a digital modulator, the easiest way to manage it is through NMS (Net Management System) visa the RJ45 internet port. What people used to do is to install a software and let the software do the settings.
But things are so different these days, the manufactuers are putting the NMS in the modulator and by the web browser, you can easily access to the system.
Take SOUKA's SKD2018 ATSC/QAM modulator as example.
